Halloween has always been my favorite holiday....also my most disappointing (next to New Years, but I've written that one off altogether)! I'm always my most creative in the fall, and Halloween is the most creative holiday (next to Christmas, but...that's a different sort of creative). Halloween is an all-out, no holds barred, imagination-extravaganza (particularly suited for freaks & misfits!), and................there's candy galore to boot! However, being the reclusive person that I am, and usually broke...it never really turns out the way I envision it. Of course, those are mere excuses. It's a slack, hypocritical perspective...for me to say it has to do with money, or other people. Halloween can be the cheapest holiday of all...If one chooses to put their mind to it.
Like the rest of the holidays (including my birthday)...I've let celebrations go the uneventful route for many years. Enter baby James! Children are most excellent for reigniting ones child-like enthusiasm!!! It must be embraced, as they grow up all too quickly...and we can miss that band-wagon.
In my mind I'm thinking, "what's the point of making James a super-cute costume...if we're not going out, having a party, etc"? Well......Halloween starts & ends with the costumes! It's the inspiration behind everything else! If you build it...they will come, as the saying goes. This year...I'm doing something. Something more then nothing! Somehow Halloween (for me) has fallen into that LAST MINUTE gig, where pumpkins and candy are most affordable the day of. If not, the day after! LOL. I'm the person that seriously wants to celebrate Christmas a month later...after everything has gone on sale!
This year...I hope to replace my severe frugality with creativity. Even if it's just for the front porch! 😛
I am making James a costume! I am making homemade treats (despite everyone's concern), and...I am going to make some crafty decorations!!! Oh, and I am buying a pumpkin (cheapskate that I am)! Maybe 2!!!
I've been thinking for awhile that I want to make James into a gnome. I think that would be super-cute, and not overly involved. Also, not something you see everyday. I'm posting a few pics for baby costumes below.
