GigHour: Interesting, new way to promote yourself, and make a buck or two.

gighourCheck out this new site where you can post quick promotional ads on conventional or way-out wacky services, and then set a price. Could take the place of Pay Per Post blogging services. Saw a few people advertising that they'd charge $3 to post about any subject, or...place an ad on their site for $5. One guy was charging $1 to walk around all day with your company name or website written on his forehead! :P

Something to keep in mind, since it's small right now, and easy to be seen. I can't image when it catches on, how many crazy offers are gonna add up to chaos, and swamp it down. If you post something...come back and comment, so we can take a look! G

Good for WAHMs/SAHMs I think. Could post typing services, or graphics..."I'll knit you a hat $25.00", or "I'll write you a love letter $2.00", or "I'll translate 500 words into Italian $20", or "I'll send you a postcard from France $5.00" (if you were taking a trip to France, or somewhere. Anywhere). I couldn't find any info on what's off-limits to post. So it all comes down to creativity! :)

Earn extra income selling holistic, all-natural makeup…

Trust that I wouldn't post get rich schemes, or programs that I don't have first hand experience with. I can't do the sales rep thing myself, bcuz I'm a total recluse and avoid the public (in general), but...I know some people have a real knack for it. Some of you get out a lot, and have a lot of friends, know a lot of moms, even online...you're part of many groups. And, chances are (in the back of your mind) you're looking for a way to monetize that talent. This could be it!

PROGRESS IN HEALTH AND ERZULIE NATURAL COSMETICSRhonda Demars, the CEO, formulator, and founder of Progress in Health, Inc. is a good friend & client. We met a long time ago on Etsy, when she was looking for a new logo. Since then I've done all her labels, branding, for several great lines like Erzulie Cosmetics, Progress Skincare, NatureBabyz, and NatureGirlz. (Check them out by clicking on the links). Recently, I just finished a brand new e-commerce site and blog for her. Rhonda's products are great! 100% all natural, and completely chemical-free! Some products are vegan, others organic, with recyclable packing, and great customer service. She's making a living doing what she loves, and she wants to share that opportunity with others.

Progress in Health has two ways of earning money.

First is an online affiliate program, where you can earn 10% on every sale you help generate. No strings attached, and it's super easy to join. Sign up, grab a button, place it on your blog, or write some posts....anyway you get visitors to the site to buy. Cookies are stored for 365 days!!! That means that even if someone you pointed to the PIH website, comes back anytime within a year to make a purchase...you get credit! 10% from every single sale you help make. It's that simple. Money is deposited into your Paypal account when it reaches $25.00

The average online purchase is around $25.00. If you get a thousand visitors a month, and only 4 of them make a purchase from PIH, that's $100 in your pocket. Think if 8 people buy something. :)

The second option for making money is a little more hands-on. It's the PIH Sales Rep program. You have the option of purchasing product packages at a discount, so you can let your friends, family, co-workers sample all the great, natural products for themselves. Or, like Avon...you can start by using a catalog. You take orders, collect payments, place the orders with Progress in Health (online with your discount code), and they do the rest (filling orders & shipping to your customers). You keep the profits for yourself.  There's 3 levels for this program. Depending on how many sales you generate...you earn more of a commission. 15% for silver, 20% for gold, and 30% for platinum.

Grade your Website...

WEBSITE GRADERFirst thing this morning I thought I'd grade my website @ Grader.com, which for those of you that don't know is this nifty tool/website for analyzing- you site (thoroughly)...and giving it a grade from 0 to 100. at the same time, ranking it amongst the other sites it's evaluated thus far. This was my result...

The website mycraftymom.net ranks 569,677 of the 2,581,813 websites that have been ranked so far.

A website grade of 78/100 for mycraftom.net means that of the millions of websites that have previously been evaluated, our algorithm has calculated that this site scores higher than 78% of them in terms of its marketing effectiveness. The algorithm uses a proprietary blend of over 50 different variables, including search engine data , website structure, approximate traffic, site performance, and others.

First...It's free! Secondly it's way-precise and easy to understand. It covers everything and anything you'd need to know to make your website or blog more successful! And gives methods on fixing it. Hubspot is also great. It's a paid service, but they have a lot of free info if you're interested in marketing tools and SEO enhancement of your site. Too much to explain here, but if you're unfamiliar with it...you should check them out.

CHECK YOUR TWITTER GRADE HERE!

hubspot free marketing kitUnfortunately my blog grade is only 14.27 :( bah. of course it's only about a month old, so I shouldn't fret. For some reason they have a problem with "images", too many of them to be exact. Personally, I think blogs without pictures.....suck. imho. I've also found this part of th grading to be a problem when I'm working on web shops that require a lot of pictures (of products). Idk. For some reason it's not 'good' to have a lot of images. The other MAJOR problem (as far as SEO goes) is NOT LABELING IMAGES with <ALT> text. 37 out of my 42 images don't have alt text, and I guess that's something I should fix.

Another thing I've noticed is that domain names that aren't secured for more than a year...get marks against them. That seems sorta silly. For me it's an expense issue, that I can secure my domain for 3 years. But......whatever. Graded my Twitter account as well. Seemed silly, bcuz it's just, after-all.......Twitter. But it showed me that I had not associated a website with my profile, and that I missing my Bio. So...good move I guess.

Traffic Rank: Top 24.04 %
Alexa is an online service that measures traffic for millions of sites on the Internet in a similar way to Nielsen television show ratings. Your website has an Alexa rank of 7,474,905 which is in the top 24.04 % of all websites.

WordPress Plugin for Online Shopping....

Yeah, I know...........I'm suppose to packing for the camping trip. Somehow I found time to download this new plugin. :/

It's WP -Commerce Plugin. It's FREE! And you can get by clicking on the logo. It's just a little intense to configure. Not hard...it's really nicely laid out and simple, but I just don't have the time this sec to play around with it. If you sell online...you might want to check it out. I'll have to get back to it later. If you install it....let me know what you think!

UPDATE: Found some extra (community) plugins made for WP e-Commerce. I'm only listing the FREE ones here. You can find the whole list here.

  • Nuke WP e-Commerce (FP – by Visser Labs): If you find yourself in the situation where you need to start over with a fresh installation of WP e-Commerce then this solution will do the job.
  • WP e-Commerce Analytics (FP – by Visser Labs): Adds Google Analytics transaction tracking (e-Commerce tracking) to completed purchases within WP e-Commerce Plugin.
  • WPEC Bulk Tools (FP – by Gingerbread Design): WPEC Bulk Tools provides bulk management tools for the WP e-Commerce Plugin. This version of the tool supports; * The setting of products across a group to the same price.
  • WP Shopping Cart XML Sitemap (FP – by Lee Willis): This plugin automatically adds products and categories from the WP e-Commerce Plugin to your XML sitemap to help search engines discover your shop.
  • Xero WP e-Commerce Exporter (FP – by hanzhimeng): Export your WP e-Commerce purchase log into a format that Xero, the worlds easiest online accounting system

Did I mention that WP e-Commerce Plugin has all the standard payment gateways? It ha Google Checkout, as well as several versions of PayPal including standard, pro, 2.0, and express checkout. Also uses a single button to load your products into Google Product Searches. (...To import your products into Google Merchant Centre so that they appear within Google Product Search results, sign up for a Google Merchant Centre account and add a scheduled data feed...). There's also a getshopped! facebook application to showcase your products through an RSS feed, so you can set it and forget it!

==========================================

Update: I've scrapped the shop for now. Is too time-intensive for me atm. Still think it's an amazing plugin, and I can see where it might (easily) challenge (and inevitably surpass) other programs like joomla/virtuemart, zencart, etc. for it's ease of use...and the fact that it supplies what people are looking for theses days...a simple, clean, quick shop...integrated with their blog. Sorta the perfect solution. Still...to get it perform like the stellar shops I've seen featured on the getshopped site...one has to invest a good chunk of dough.

I think it's pretty straightforward for those that are starting a blog from scratch, with the main intent being to set it up for shopping. For use solely with the WP e-Commerce plugin. Trying to integrate it into an existing blog.......I've found it to be a headache.
