The great folks over at Tummy Tub USA were kind enough to send me a Tummy Tub for Falcon, after I wrote aboutmy dilemma with bath-time. I bought an infant tub for Falcon, prior to his birth. They’re are basically the same design…tub shaped, and designed to fit over the sink…which it didn’t. It was just a quarter of an inch too big. I used it probably a half dozen times before he outgrew it, and we moved on to using the sink. It’s stainless, and cold…so it required putting a towel down inside the sink for padding and comfort. The sink was great, until……..he outgrew that as well. We have one garden tub that’s very non-economical to fill up, especially to wash a baby. The water heater doesn’t even fill it up all the way, so that wasn’t an option. I had a plastic storage tub laying around that I used for awhile. He fit in it nicely, but it had sharp parts on the bottom (from the extruding method), and again…required that I line it with a towel. A sopping towel that just added to the hassle of bath-time.
Finally, I just gave up on baths altogether and started showering Falcon. Of course, I had to take a shower as well, which sometimes at the end of the day I just don’t always have energy for. Slightly involved…requiring the use of the stroller (luckily it’s a large bathroom). I’d wheel him up, take my shower first, then scoop him up for his. Dangerously slippery, but it worked for the most part. I’d still be going that route if I hadn’t gotten the Tummy Tub. All I can say is Thank God for small blessings!
THE TUMMY TUB IS FABULOUS!!!
It’s smooth, and solid…no sharp edges, no cold steel, no need for lining it. Best of all it requires only a small amount water…so not only is highly economical, and energy efficient, but evironmentally friendly as well! There’s a line a fill line on the tub to make it easy. I’ve watched the videos on youtube and I know it’s perfect for small babies (which Falcon is not). I was a little worried he wouldn’t fit into it comfortably, but…he LOVES it! I place it on the bathroom counter, in front of the large mirror. He loves watching himself in the tub. I also took it camping with us, and it was perfect. I put all his bath-time supplies in it, and 2 towels…and it packed away nicely. Giving him a bath only required that I heat up a small amount of water! It’s sturdy, even with his weight…and doesn’t tip over, although this is the safest tub imaginable…NEVER leave your child unattended during a bath (of course we all know that).
Another great thing about the Tummy Tub is it’s transparent, which is just so damn cute to see him all scooched down, with his little bum pressed against the plastic…makes me giggle. I found it really interesting that he fit perfectly into the tub, but that the longer he stays in it…the more and more he nestles into it. It is just exactly like a womb, and I can tell he’s really secure feeling in it! Also, even being a big as he is…it’s not difficult to get my hands in the tub and wash him well. Washing his hair is super easy too. I use very little soap, as he’s never that dirty…I add a few drops to the bath water, along with oatmeal powder, and it’s not even necessary to rinse him off afterwards. And, for the small amount of water that’s used…it stays warm for the entire duration of his bath, and unlike other tub designs…he’s fully submerged in the warm water. I like that it’s light weight, sturdy in design, made with safe materials, and can be easily set up anywhere. I love bathing Falcon outside on sunny days! My question is…why don’t they make these for adults?!?
